Reminiscent of the movie comedy "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House," the text relates the story
of the author's quest for the "perfect garden" after moving into a derelict house on several
acres in a small New York community. He shares the broad knowledge gained over a quarter century, providing
advice from selecting the right gardening equipment to various strategies in his continuing warfare with
animal pests while working to achieve his dream of harvesting crops from a small orchard and vegetable
garden. His experience in meeting the challenge of local tradesmen and Mother Nature are told with a wry
humor that will bring smiles to readers. On a more serious note, he asks several questions for gardeners
and others to ponder, among them is when does an activity turn from a hobby to a dominating life style,
one that may be difficult to change. This is an enjoyable, thought-provoking journal that the reader will
not want to put down.
